The Empire State Building. At on point in time, it was considered the tallest and preeminent building in the world. But since the Sears tower (in chicago) and the WTC (built in 1971 and destroyed in 2001) and a few others, it has lost that distinction. Though, i do have to admit, its fucking impressive looking up at it from the ground up. I will say this, you ain't getting me to go up it though. I'm terrified of elevators as is and though they have modernized them, it and the Rockefeller center elevators scare the bejeebus out of me.

Seen from between Park Ave and Fifth Ave on 34th Street.

YES I LOVE IT! :D
I know how you feel. My family is from Iowa, but
I grew up in CA. Trips back there were so quiet
and relaxing.

I love those trips but gods i love my city. I do miss driving though on rare occasions when i have to go out into the five boroughs but that's okay.

I know the feeling. Sometimes I just
long to be somewhere more peaceful.
Then I think, I couldn't be there
forever, I'd have to make sure I
had internet :D

Boy, does this bring back memories. My family went to the World's Fair in 1965 and we took a bus tour for NY. When getting into the elevator to go to the top of the building (we went up one elevator then switched to another) the operator told my dad to cover the eyes of us girls. He said that for some kids seeing the numbers fly by is frightening. I have to say the elevator was incredibly fast and I absolutely to do NOT like elevators. I missed an opportunity to go up the Eiffel Tower in 1970 because I took one look at the elevator that went up at an angle, on the outside of the tower and said, "um, no" ~ you guys go ahead"; however, I digress: the view from the top of The Empire State Building is a view I'll never forget. Breathtaking!

Yeah, i may if someone ever goes with me. I can stand doing the Rockefeller observatory only because its a little lower.

The only reason I went up in that elevator was because I was 14-years old and my dad said I had to! It was worth it, though. Since I was with friends in Paris and not family I didn't feel like I "had" to go up the elevator. Even today I wonder if I would get in it and actually go up to the top. The one at King's Island outside of Cincinnati is on the inside of the building and goes straight up. The replica of the Eiffel Tower is about 1/3 of the actual size. That isn't so bad!!
